At once, they abandoned their nets and followed him.
Jesus went a little farther on, and saw James and John, the sons of Zebedee; they were in their boat mending their nets.
Immediately, Jesus called them and they followed him, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men.
REFLECTION:
A coin has two sides, both sides are important components for the authentic identity of the coin.
There are also two important components to identify Jesus’ true and faithful disciples:
detachment from family and material goods and follow him. To follow Jesus means to leave whatever hinders the way.
There are two opposite movements when we follow Jesus: change our ways and believe the Good News.
To be a true and faithful disciple of Jesus requires a radical decision to turn away from the worldly values and turn to the Lord.
It is either the Lord or the world: no compromise, no double deal. Single-heartedness is necessary for Jesus says,
“You cannot serve God and wealth” (Matthew 6:24).
