For to the one who produces something, more will be given; and from him who does not produce anything,
even what he has will be taken away from him.”
REFLECTION:
Have you experienced entering a dark room? What is your first instinct? Indeed you want to switch on the light.
Light brightens the darkness, gives direction and joy. When there is light, everything is visible, nothing is hidden.
Jesus’ teaching addresses our senses of seeing, hearing, and touch. He exhorts us to use these faculties and talents
for the good of others. Just as an unused machine becomes rusty, so too, our unused talents become useless if they are not
shared for the good of God’s people. For this reason, one who produces more will be given more while the one who does not
produce anything will be divested of what he has. Talents which are used are enhanced while talents not used will remain
hidden and ultimately become stale. Those who use their talents at the service of the community are like light, which give
joy to others.
