They enjoy the first places at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues, and they like being greeted in the marketplace,
and being called ‘Master’ by the people.
But you, do not let yourselves be called Master, because you have only one Master, and all of you are brothers and sisters.
Neither should you call anyone on earth Father, because you have only one Father, he who is in heaven. Nor should you be called Leader,
because Christ is the only Leader for you. Let the greatest among you be the servant of all.
For whoever makes himself great shall be humbled, and whoever humbles himself shall be made great.
REFLECTION:
A country of one hundred million people just elected a new president.
After just a year in office, he announced his resignation. He remarked, “Before my election,
I only had one president—my predecessor. After my oath taking, I started serving one hundred million presidents.
I have millions of masters in all of you. And I miss that position.”
There are various schools training people to become masters.
Motivational speakers urge us to be the one ruling than being ruled.
We are encouraged to be little gods. To be learners and stewards forever is a mark of failure.
There has to be a ladder and the ladder has to stop somewhere. Jesus, however,
tells us that a real Master or Leader is never insecure losing lordship and mastery.
The Lord is inclined to serve even to be humiliated by billions of little gods and masters.
