Gospel: Matthew 8:23-27
Jesus got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Without warning, a fierce storm burst upon the lake, with waves sweeping the boat. But Jesus was asleep.
The disciples woke him up and cried, “Lord save us! We are lost!” But Jesus answered, “Why are you so afraid, you of little faith?”

Then he stood up and rebuked the wind and sea; and it became completely calm.

The disciples were astonished. They said, “What kind of man is he? Even the winds and the sea obey him.”

Reflection

Faith is the assurance that Christ is with us.

What is the proper attitude when facing the storms of life? In today’s Gospel, the disciples find themselves caught in a storm, terrified as large and violent waves crash against their boat. They are also frightened to see that Jesus is soundly sleeping.

In life’s journey, we, too, encounter storms—hardships, failures, fears, and uncertainties. Like the disciples, Jesus calls us to trust Him, even when life feels overwhelming. He invites us to have faith in Him. Faith does not mean the absence of storms but the assurance that Christ is with us.

When fear grips our hearts, let us confidently turn to Jesus, knowing He is in the same boat as us, and allow His presence to bring peace, no matter how fierce the storm may be.
